The Second Coming (2009 rev. 2023) SSAATTBB Choir

The Second Coming is a piece for a cappella choir using the text of the poem by William Butler Yeats.  Yeats’ poem, written in 1919, is a dark and surreal imagining of the apocalypse reflecting the chaos and crisis of the world following World War I and the 1918 flu pandemic.  Its rich and colorful language makes for a dramatic and haunting piece of music.  Check out the lyric video on YouTube.
